Years ago, when I was studying for my bachelors at The New School, I took a class called Visual Diary. I did okay at it, but I always felt like I missed the point.
It could have been friction between me and the professor. The class was also really cliquey, which made it all the harder. Plus, I had personal shit going on at the same time that didn’t really didn’t help.
So, since my birthday is around the corner, I was thinking about starting up an actual photo diary for real. I kept a written one off and on for years, I found writing in it is helpful. So I’m about to start a tumblr, like Terry Richardson’s (but less… sexual assualty)
Okay, I started one anyway, just in case.
So here it is… the start of Peter’s Diary. One very short post a day, no matter how banal. Unprocessed, straight from the camera.
I went to the dentist today to get one of my busted teeth fixed. Came home with a splitting headache and a aching jaw. I turned off the lights and watched X-Files for a couple of hours.

You’re not cool or punk enough to get your neck tattooed on the steps of The Met.

I don’t know if you noticed or not, but… there’s been some changes around here.
I swapped out the template to give this place a slicker look. I liked the wall of photos, but I really wanted it to be easier to follow. New menu and a new bio (it even includes my name!).
The most exciting bit is that I upgraded my compy, and now I can easily go through my old catalog, and process images without pulling my hair out.
I already have shots from the time I shot the Siren Festival up, and I should have them done by the end of the week.
Going through the archive, I need to put some more work up on the site. So I’m sorting, editing, occasionally weeping from memories I buried. You know the deal.
So I ran across this one from when I was commissioned by the Huffington Post to photograph the Siren Festival in Coney Island back in 2010. Shit, where does time go?
It was kind of a disaster. The people in charge didn’t get me my press pass, luckily someone at the village voice took mercy on me and let me into the press pen. I don’t know what happened to the images after I sent them, but when they were published they looked corrupted. Then finally, the HuffPo didn’t pay to use my shots.
Yeah, I know, bullshit, but back then, not paying was sort of their thing.
I particularly like this shot. It’s of Kamara Thomas from Earl Greyhound. I’m not sure if I’m going to use it in a gallery, but it would be a shame to let it go to waste.
So, good news. I enrolled into graphic design program at Hunter College. So since I have design on the brain I’ve been thinking about this site and how it could be better designed, and used.
One thing that I decided that I’m definitely going to do, is make an new logo for the site. So for the fun of it, I decided to run it by an AI…
…and now I’m sort of regretting it.
